The Bayeux Tapestry
Admit it: The Folio Society's continuous printing version of this famed tapestry looks amazing. Add to it their book on the tapestry's meaning, and you have a perfect Christmas gift--as long as you're willing to spend a mid-range internal organ on the pair.
I think I'll continue to lust for the volumes from afar.

For that amount of money you could travel to France and see the original.
People who do needlepoint can take a class with one of the persons who keeps the tapestry in good condition and knows the history of the tapestry and then, under the person's guidance, work on a needlepoint kit that is a copy of a small section of the tapestry. Bet that class costs a pretty penny as well!
Mark, yes, indeed. I do one day hope to see it.
Rosanne, for those who can needlepoint, that sounds cool.
What an awesome thing! (and a little surprising that someone hasn't done it before!)
I have this book on the BT - https://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=16182532515 (best pictures I could find of the slipcased edition from the 80s). I did a paper on it in grad school. Truly an amazing artifact ... in a way, it's a kind of document.
@Roseanne - Would that be cool or what? :-)
