The next Jon & Lobo book

At WorldCon and in email, a lot of folks have asked recently about the status of the next Jon & Lobo book.  That's more than fair, because in my ideal world the book would have appeared earlier this summer.  It did not, however, for a very simple reason:  I'm not done with it yet.  I'm working on it, but I don't know when I'll finish.  I've told this to folks, but otherwise I've stayed mum on the book.  That practice is, unsurprisingly, more than a little frustrating to many people.  I've explained before why I try to avoid talking about works in progress, but I also don't mean to be annoying by doing so.

After much thought, I've decided to leak one little tidbit about the next book:  its title.  Though I don't know when I will complete the novel, I do know its name:

All the Worlds Against Us

No, I did not miss an apostrophe; I really mean all the worlds of my future.

I will also say that the title is rather more true than Jon & Lobo would like.

Thank you so much for posting this. I was hoping against hope that you still wanted to write stories with these characters!

Thanks for the support and the kind words, Sonya. I hope to finish the series and the stories of Jon and Lobo, and doing that will take another ten books or so, so expect more novels ahead!

Looking forward to reading it!

Thanks, Deb. I'm looking forward to eventually finishing it.

If I'm guessing correctly, this is one book I've been waiting for. Jon and Lobo have tweaked a lot of noses in the previous books, which can't have gone completely unnoticed by the powers that be. I'm sure there's a line of people who would really like to a chance to talk with Jon and Lobo if given hints of their existance...

Looking forward to it, Mark!

Indeed, a lot of people are not very happy with Jon and Lobo.

... but we readers are VERY happy with Jon and Lobo! and even happier to learn that more exploits are underway.

Mark, please take all the time you need. Look how patient genre readers are with Rothfuss and Sanderson, and they don't even have day jobs like you do. Shoot, there's even a song begging George RR to "write faster"!

Just write the book you want to write; it'll be worth the wait.

I wish I could say that you have missed something, but you have not. I am incredibly late with the book, and it will be many more months before I finish it. I am so very sorry. I am working on it.

Thanks for replying. Don't worry I'll be waiting when you do finish :D

I am a big fan of the series and am anxiously waiting for the next installment. But please, make sure the story is what you want before you release. There is nothing worse than an unfinished book, or a book the author is not happy with.

Mark said...

I absolutely will. I never take an advance for my novels, and I never turn them in until I am done with them. I will not change that.

Love the series, great characters, great unfolding of plot. I hope there can be a happy ending. I see it as wither lobo and jon or one off them sacrificing themselves or ending eventually with jon and maybe lobo joining his people and escaping humanity through on of those rifts. Speculation is fun.

Thanks for the kind words. Stay tuned to future books to find out what's coming!

So, it's been a while since your last update. You wouldn't happen to have any news for us anxiously waiting readers, would you?

I hope everything's working out for you and that you're getting close(r) to finish the book. =)

Thanks for the encouragement. I am drawing closer, but I am nowhere near done. I apologize for that.

Are you anywhere near done? I miss Jon and Lobo, esp. Lobo :-)

Mark said...

Not yet, but I am working on it and hope this summer will prove to be a big time for the book.

I am very sorry.
