Talking Boy

As I mentioned last week, while I was in Portland, the fine folks at the Intel Software Network's Take Five Videos filmed an interview with me. We talked about seamless, self-aware, and context-aware computing, and we also discussed briefly my charity work with Children No More. We filmed outdoors, which led me to squint throughout the ten-minute piece, but if you're interested, click on the video below and check it out.

Yikes! He's talking again.

Yes, I am, over at the Intel Software Network video site again. This time, they've posted three interviews with me, all on various tech-geek topics: parallel programming, manageability, and the future of graphics.

I can't bear to watch my fat self, so if any of you do check these out, please let me know how they are.

Here's the inside scoop on how these went. Gina and I showed up at the appointed time, and Jerry and Amy, Intel folks and friends, led us to a covered walkway they thought offered a nice background. (I agreed with them, because it's much nicer to look at trees than the usual corporate spaces.) A cameraman was waiting there. They told me the plan--talk on three topics--and then we picked a spot where the light was good. We did all three in one straight take, no redos, no review of questions, no preparation; Amy asked questions, and I answered them. I enjoy doing these talks, because I have to make up my answers on the spot, but I'm pretty sure I'm way stiffer and more uncomfortable looking than I should be. I'm hoping to get better at this sort of thing.

I also have to hope I sound at least moderately competent, somewhat interesting, and not too unprepared. Maybe someday I'll get around to watching them and find out...or not.

When I was in Portland on September 18, I mentioned having done some interviews for Intel. They're live now. If you're interested in listening to me yak on technical topics, I've embedded the videos here. Warning: For reasons unknown to me, both Intel videos (unlike their Youtube counterparts below) start playing automatically. So, pause them ASAP or be prepared for the cacophony of me talking on two subjects at the same time. Not good.

First, they asked me about multi-core computing, and I, of course, had plenty to say.



Next, they asked what I thought of Netbooks, so I told them--and then kept talking because, well, it got good for me.



With no disrespect to myself, I can imagine you might need a mental palate cleanser after listening to tech stuff. I recommend almost any Blue Rodeo song or video, but to make life simpler for you, today I've chosen this one.

By the way, these guys are awesome, one of the best bands ever. I've mentioned my first experience hearing their music; someday I'll tell the whole story. And, they tie to this week's trip, because they're Canadian. Which means, of course, they're nice.
