Like the common cold, such ignorance sucks the life from those it afflicts.

"Ever get to shoot someone?" is a question I have been asked many times. My first useful response is, "No, I've never _had_ to shoot someone to protect my life or that of another person. Thank God. I have enough stains on my soul."

I do not always have the patience to reach that response. More often it is a couple four letter words.Griffinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07365172490610500537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1381393706912671861.post-60968345431322233842010-11-07T11:32:30.095-05:002010-11-07T11:32:30.095-05:00Maybe foolish, Griffin, but very common.Maybe foolish, Griffin, but very common.Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14054476535275659839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1381393706912671861.post-7452815512833738732010-11-07T11:31:26.216-05:002010-11-07T11:31:26.216-05:00I believe that it's uncomfortable to hear peop...I believe that it's uncomfortable to hear people discuss their traumas, but we all put up with some discomfort for those we care about.Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14054476535275659839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1381393706912671861.post-37517822852329539102010-11-07T10:16:27.404-05:002010-11-07T10:16:27.404-05:00Foolish, the desire to stick one's head in the...Foolish, the desire to stick one's head in the sand and try and drive the unusual, the uncomfortable, the hard thought away with obtuse remarks and questions tailored to offend rather than learn.

Keep pushing.Griffinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07365172490610500537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1381393706912671861.post-58229738757225532522010-11-07T08:05:23.937-05:002010-11-07T08:05:23.937-05:00This is my third attempt at commenting on this pos...This is my third attempt at commenting on this post. It's relevant to where my own thought and feeling is just now, but I need more rumination to develop those into something written. Suffice to say, for now, that I agree with you and have been wondering how much the notion of "being normal" subconsciously enforces the secrecy--and how much "normal" or "mainstream" culture is a myth. I'm having a hard time coming up with more than a minority of the people I've known who haven't survived trauma, been close to someone who had, or who had experienced being othered for reasons aside from trauma.Dan Campbellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08836592951045852766noreply@blogger.com
